The 83rd annual Academy Awards red carpet has concluded for the night and the handbag trends from the event have just begun. Oscar nominees and celebrity guests paired their formal gowns with classic Judith Leiber crystal encrusted clutches as well as unexpected daytime clutch fabrications. Mila Kunis paired her Elie Saab gown with a Bottega Veneta box clutch; fusing her formal gown with a daytime clutch made from exotic crocodile. The fusion of a formal gown with a daytime clutch created an unexpected mix of fabrications on the red carpet. Helena Bonham Carter wore a Lulu Guinness, black and white fan clutch on the red carpet paired with her black Coleen Atwood gown. The whimsical Lulu Guinness fan clutch added dimension to her all black gown and was a key conversation piece for her ensemble. Jennifer Lawrence wore a Calvin Klein by Francisco Costa red column dress paired with a gold and silver, crystal encrusted clutch by Judith Leiber. The Judith Leiber clutch was a classic red carpet handbag that has been spotted in the hands of celebrities year after year. Jennifer Lawrence’s handbag was the standout piece of her ensemble. Hilary Swank paired a Roger Vivier Tube Barree clutch with her Gucci gown on the red carpet. The Roger Vivier Tube Barree clutch was silver with a plain silver metal, signature hallow square bit detail on the flap closure of the handbag. Roger Vivier has been making more appearance lately on the red carpet as Anne Hathaway wore one of his handbags for the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year, which was also worn on the red carpet by Natalie Portman. Natalie Portman appeared on the Academy Awards red carpet wearing the same style Roger Vivier bois de nuit clutch worn by Anne Hathaway at the Golden Globe awards. Natalie Portman paired the golden clutch with a Rodarte gown and Tiffany jewelry. The majority of the handbags which graced the red carpet tonight at the 83rd annual Academy Awards were crystal encrusted or metallic. A few leather handbags made it to the red carpet such as Mila Kunis and her Bottega Veneta clutch or Helena Bonham Carter and her Lulu Guinness fan clutch, but all in all, the red carpet handbags sparkled as bright as the stars that carried them.
