Jakarta Fashion Week handbags are fresh and innovative; different from the handbags Fashionistas have been seeing for spring 2011 in the Western fashion shows. The handbags shown during Jarkarta Fashion Week are modern fashion fused with Indonesian tradition. The handbag collections were either designed to blend into the background of intricately designed material, or made to be a centerpiece of art on a woman’s arm. The simple leather handbags that designers in New York, Paris and Milan showed for spring 2011 paled in comparison to the artistic bags shown on the Jakarta Fashion Week runway. Defrico Audy showed a medium sized, circular handbag with a large tassel underneath. Defrico Audy’s handbag has a traditional, Indonesian flair as well as a fashion forward tassel which easily fits into the spring 2011 tassel trend on handbags. Ghea Pangabean created a collection of totes made from the same intricate fabric as the frocks they were shown with. Ghea Pangabean’s stunning collection of totes could easily be worn with neutral outfits or worn to compliment colorful spring looks in addition to being worn with the designs they were intended to be paired with. In addition to the fabric totes, Ghea Pangabean featured a large straw drawstring handbag which fits right into the straw handbag trend for spring as well as the trend towards non-leather handbags. Auguste Soesastro featured a small, daytime clutch on the runway which could easily be worn to the office or with daytime. The small clutch was light beige and shown with an outfit that seemed office-attire inspired.
